Continuous hinges, sometimes known as piano hinges, are narrow hinges with a series of overlapping knuckles that run the entire length of the door or lid on which they are mounted. The long length distributes the load over a large area, enabling the hinge and mounting material to remain relatively thin in material thickness and width.
A continuous hinge is useful for applications where the hinge must remain compact and as unobtrusive as possible, such as a piano lid. Sierra Pacific Engineering and Products manufactures a large selection of continuous hinges that will fit any application, with material thicknesses ranging from 0.025" to 0.188" and lengths from 12 inches to 8 feet.
We stock continuous hinges in 316 stainless steel, aluminum, steel and stainless steel. Our high quality stainless hinges are great for applications where regular steel parts would be susceptible to corrosion. Aluminum hinges will also prevent corrosion, and weigh one-third less than steel. Multiple finishes include galvanized, mill, and electropolished, with several plating options, including brass, chrome, nickel and zinc.
If none of the continuous hinges in our 4,000-part catalog meets your exact requirements, contact us for assistance in modifying or creating a new one using our high-tech design and manufacturing processes, including 3-D CAD, run on the SolidWorks platform, and finite element analysis (FEA) capability.
